Professional Liability
The Professional Liability Group is dedicated to the representation of professionals. The lawyers of the group focus their practice on the defense of actions and proceedings against professionals arising out of professional practice. Many of the matters involve professional malpractice which accuses the professional of deviating from the standard of care. The matters handled by the Professional Liability Group also include claims for breach of contract, defamation, commercial torts, intentional torts such as fraud, conspiracy and illegal acts, and claims based on regulations of professional conduct. The lawyers of the Professional Liability Group manage, monitor and participate in collateral proceedings involving criminal investigations and prosecutions, administrative proceedings, and professional licensing proceedings which may impact the claim litigation. Our Professional Liability Group is accustomed to handling litigation involving issues which affect the liability of professionals.
The Professional Liability Group works hand in hand with the Medical Malpractice group in the defense of medical professionals. The Professional Liability practice group focused its efforts upon the representation of non-medical professionals including the representation of architects and engineers, insurance agents, brokers, securities dealers, and corporate directors and officers. Among the professional liability matters handled by the group are the defense of class actions, derivative actions, and securities law based actions.
The representation of professionals for matters arising out of professional conduct requires handling by experienced attorneys who concentrate in the practice. The structure of the Professional Liability Group encourages the lawyers and their staff to collaborate. Through sharing knowledge and ideas about issues common to the representation of all professionals, the talent of each professional liability attorney can contribute toward achieving the optimal defense. The group uses available technology to manage, develop, plan and organize complex commercial litigation matters. JEFFREY B. McCARRON is the Chairperson of the Management Committee and he is Chair of the Professional Liability Group of Swartz Campbell. Mr. McCarron is a Board Certified Professional Liability Attorney by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, as well as a Board Certified Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. Martindale-Hubble rated him AV (highest available).
For two decades, Mr. McCarron has dedicated his practice to the representation of professionals in litigation and developed a group which concentrates on the specialized handling of professional liability litigation matters. The matters involve representation of lawyers, accountants, appraisers, realtors, insurance agents/brokers, officers and directors, architects and engineers, securities dealers, and title insurance agents. Mr. McCarron has handled hundreds of trials, and he is a frequent lecturer and writer concerning professional liability issues, risk management for professionals, and litigation techniques and practice. He is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Mr. McCarron is a former Co-Chair of the Professional Responsibility Committee of the Philadelphia Bar Association, former Co-Vice Chair of the Professional Liability Committee of the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the current Chair of the Professional Liability Committee of the Pennsylvania Defense Institute. He is a member of the American Bar Association Committee on Professional Liability Litigation and Committee on Ethics and Professionalism.
Mr. McCarron joined Swartz Campbell in 1990. He came to us from the Defender Association of Philadelphia where he handled major jury and non-jury criminal trials and other proceedings. He earned his J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 1987.
Mr. McCarron is listed in Best Lawyers for Legal Malpractice Law and named a Top 100 Philadelphia and Top 100 Pennsylvania lawyer by Super Lawyers.
